Tucker Craven, UNC Director
Class of 2021, UNC-Chapel Hill Political Science & Chinese Major Having taken Chinese on a whim his first semester at UNC, Tucker quickly developed an interest in Chinese language, culture, and society. A double major in Political Science and Chinese, Tucker has a particular interest in the political implications of China's rise and is currently writing a senior honors thesis on contentious politics and social movements in the PRC. |
Dennis Wang, Duke Director
Class of 2021 [winter], Duke University Political Science & Economics Major From experiencing the Arab Spring to witnessing a Nepalese Maoist movement to being accused of a petty crime in North Korea, Dennis has been passionate about global affairs at a young age. Dennis most recently interned at the National Committee on US-China Relations in New York City. In the past, Dennis has also been at China Central Television (CCTV) in Beijing as well as Huawei Technologies in West Africa (Morocco, Mauritania, and Burkina Faso). Dennis enjoys writing and is also the best-selling author of “Reigning the Future: AI, 5G, Huawei, and the Next 30 Years of US-China Rivalry. |
Peng Xu, UNC Deputy Director
Class of 2022, UNC-Chapel Hill Computer Science & Neuroscience Major Having spent his first 20 years witnessing the fast development of China, Peng is dedicated to bringing a real and vivid picture of current Chinese society. He is eager to uncover the emerging voices of China's Generation Z, especially focusing on topics such as feminism/LGBTQ+ identities/ACG/pop-culture. During his free time, Peng enjoys playing jiu-jitsu, swimming, dancing and trying good food. |
Evan Finley, Duke Deputy Director & Fundraising Chair
Class of 2023, Duke University International Comparative Studies & Chinese Major Evan Finley is a sophomore Robertson Scholar at Duke. His political interests range from the intricacies of US-China business relations to the conflict over Taiwan. In summer 2018, Evan traveled to China as a volunteer English teacher and taught Hakka aboriginal children. This experience instilled in Evan a sense of globalism and desire to further connect our two worlds. Evan is interested in majoring in International Comparative Studies and Mandarin. |

Class of 2021, UNC-Chapel Hill Luka grew up in Huzhou - a small coastal city in East China. Due to her interest in learning both American and Chinese history, Luka was able to see how the U.S.-China relations have been shaped over the past few decades. She has a history and Global Studies double major at UNC-CH. During her free time, she enjoys watching K-dramas, documentaries, and comedies. |

Class of 2023, Duke University Political Science Major; Economics & Cultural Anthropology Minor Carlos is a sophomore at Duke University, with a major in political science and minors in economics and cultural anthropology. He is an enthusiast in international politics, U.S.-China relations, and immigration studies. He wishes to explore the idea of citizenship and national consciousness. He is also passionate about music and theater, currently involved in the Duke Chinese Theater. He attended CLS in 2020 and is excited to serve as the Logistics Chair for this profound conference. |

Interested in economic policy and business relations between the U.S. and China, Alex will be exploring such topics through the GLOBE program at the Kenan-Flagler Business School, which will allow him to travel to Hong Kong and Copenhagen via an immersive dual-exchange business program. Outside of his interest in US-China relations, Alex enjoys playing basketball, video games, and going on hikes. |

Driven by my interest in tech field, I begin to take note of US - China relations over related areas, which seems to be a hot topic during recent years. Participating in a world-wide program which studies the government policies regarding sexual abuse cases specifically in China and US further arouses my interest in US - China relations and drives me to explore beyond tech field. By joining the CLS, I would love to explore more regarding political science, which I am planning to minor in. During free time, I do Chinese folk dance, which makes me a big fan of China's ethnic culture. |

A double major of Political Science and Economics allows Cici to explore the role of China in foreign affairs in depth. Exchanging with Fudan University in Shanghai, China, Cici is able to hear more voices on the controversial issues regarding US- China relations. |

Class of 2021, UNC-Chapel Hill Chinese & Computer Science Major Andrew is a senior at UNC-Chapel HIll studying Chinese and Computer Science. He was initially drawn to study Chinese due to its sharp differences to English and has so enjoyed his studies so much that he plans on joining the Department of State after graduating in order to foster Sino-American cooperation on pressing international issues. He is especially interested in climate change and poverty alleviation work and has conducted research on healthcare access in the past. Moreover, raised in China, he also participated in The Tenth Congress of the Suzhou Student Union to enrich knowledge of the latest political proposals and resolution.
